HELIWAY 908, the Syma X8SW competitor?
Today let’s have a look at the brand new HELIWAY 908 quadcopter with WiFi FPV, a 2MP camera, altitude hold, multiple speed modes, and more.
The overall design of the quadcopter is pretty interesting to me, it’s entirely black with very sharp corners, and is about the same size as the Syma X8SW which is actually quite large.
It comes with a 7.4v 2000mAh battery, 8-10 minutes of flight time, and a charge time of 120 minutes. Flight time could be better but for the price it seems to be right on the money.
The HELIWAY 908 streams video over WiFi via an app to your phone where video is also recorded since there is no microSD card. Video quality is likely to be 640×480 or a similar video resolution since that is about the limit of WiFi video.
As for the camera itself it is mounted to the bottom of the quadcopter and according to the pictures has some sort of rubber dampening to reduce vibration. If this camera is removable the 908 should be an excellent platform to mount your own camera like a GoPro or Xiaomi Yi.
Altitude hold is one of the major features that melds really well with any quadcopter that features WiFi FPV. The reason is because without altitude hold it’s a huge pain to deal with throttle over a 1-2 second delay without it but when you do have it you don’t have to worry about adjusting throttle.
The transmitter included with this quadcopter looks quite nice and all the extra buttons are labeled clearly so you’re not having to guess where everything is. There is also a phone mount included with the quadcopter and it wraps around the plastic antenna housing allowing you to fit many different phone sizes.
Conclusion
The HELIWAY 908 is a nice looking large WiFi FPV enabled quadcopter that seems like it’s shaping up to be a good quad. Altitude hold helps negate some of the problems with FPV video delay and it looks like it could be a decent competitor to the Syma X8SW if you’re looking for something different.
